Make your own Energy Drinks

December 24th, 2009 | by admin |

A short vid on how to make your own energy drinks at home. Instead of paying $1.5 for an energy gel or $1.75 for a sports drink, you can make your own for less than .25. All you need is a water bottle, Maltodextrin and flavoring like Crystal Light.

Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate product derived from rice, potato or corn starch.

Most energy drinks have a LOT of sugar which will give you short term energy, not sustained energy for endurance type sports.

I just squeeze some fresh lemon in there. You may want to add a bit of sugar, or splenda if you are ok with that sweetener.

    Yes, Maltodextrin …
Yes, Maltodextrin is derived from corn or potatoes and is a complex carbohydrate. Read the food packages that you eat and you’ll find it in a lot of foods.

I just suggested a product like Crystal lite as a basic flavoring, but anyone can use any type of flavoring like real lemon’s and some honey for a little bit of sweetness.

    Maltodextrin is …
Maltodextrin is also a refined product usually made from either corn or potatoes. It is multiple glucose units hooked together (a polymer). Because the bonds between the glucose units are very weak, it is also very readily absorbed and has a very high glycemic index. Like dextrose it should be avoided as much as possible. It has been called a “sugar substitute” but that is based on a rather strict definition of sugar as “sucrose.”

    Hey burritto… …
Hey burritto… it’s cool that you made your energy drink… It sounds like a lot of sugar which is the opposite of mine. The maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate which gives you longer term energy and a simple carb like sugar. Happy drumming…
